John W. Groll, 74, of Temperance, MI, died Saturday, July 28, 2018 at his residence. John was born on June 6, 1944 in Toledo, Ohio to John and Loretta (Kusian) Groll.John married the love of his life, Rita Hutchinson in 1964 and their life’s journey began. Together with their 4 children, they made many years of happy memories.
John’s greatest joy was his family. He enjoyed family parties, creating memories of laughter, and tweaking the knees of unsuspecting grandchildren. He was always quick to laugh and could take a joke as well as he could give one. One of his favorite things to do was to camp with family and friends as well as travel throughout the United States with a “pop-up” camper.
As a younger man, John was involved with coaching 3B baseball, and volunteering with the Bedford Band Boosters. Through this volunteer work, he made many lifelong friends.He loved yard work,especially his flowers, and he was a hero to his nieces and nephews for making life fun.
John was a 1962 graduate of Scott High School. Twenty years later he received his Associate’s Degree from the University of Toledo. He was employed at Art Associates INC, for 42 years as their Project Coordinator.
John is survived by his wife Rita; children, John (Joan), Greg (Jennifer), Denise (Mark), Parsell, Jennifer Zimmerman; mother, Loretta Groll; sister, Diane (James) Smith; 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful friends. John was preceded in death by his father, John W. Groll Sr.
Visitation for John at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Road (at Jackman) Temperance, MI, will begin on Friday, August 3, 2018 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm, where services will be held on Saturday at 11:00am. Interment, Ottawa Hills Memorial Park, Toledo, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., U of M Pancreatic Cancer Research, or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
